Film Forum on End-of-Life Issues: “Mar Adentro”

First session of the End-of-Life Film Forum organized by the Youngner Chair in Empirical Bioethics (CYBE), within the framework of the INEDyTO 3 project. This series will take place between September and January and will include a total of four screenings focused on end-of-life practices from an ethical perspective.

The sessions will be moderated by Miguel Melguizo, a retired family physician and associate professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Granada.

  • Director:  Alejandro Amenábar (2004)
  • Synopsis: Ramón (Javier Bardem) has been confined to a bed and cared for by his family for nearly thirty years. His only window to the world is the one in his room overlooking the sea, where he suffered the accident that abruptly ended his youth. Since then, his only wish has been to die with dignity. Two women have a profound influence on his life: Julia (Belén Rueda), a lawyer who supports his cause, and Rosa (Lola Dueñas), a neighbor who tries to convince him that life is worth living. Yet both women, captivated by Ramón’s radiant personality, begin to reconsider the principles that guide their own lives. Ramón knows that only someone who truly loves him will help him embark on his final journey.
